Who is behind BeautyVetted

BeautyVetted is built and run by Data Jockey LLC, a Wisconsin company founded by two people who wanted a place where the claim next to a surgeon's name could be checked, not just read.

The founders

Sean Mihelich

Co-founder, BeautyVetted

Sean Mihelich co-founded BeautyVetted in 2026 and leads Data Jockey, the company that builds and operates it. He studied business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he founded the Bitcoin Club and served as its president, and he was Head of Business Development at Bitplaza before starting Data Jockey. He serves on the board of The Better Housing Company, a nonprofit that develops permanently below-market-rate housing.

Lorenzo Pizzinini

Co-founder, BeautyVetted

Lorenzo Pizzinini co-founded BeautyVetted and Data Jockey with Sean Mihelich. He studied economics at Maastricht University and spent an exchange semester at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where the two met. Before Data Jockey he built back-office automations for operating companies in Italy, and that experience shapes how the company thinks about marketing and go-to-market. He is based in Italy.

Neither founder is a physician, and nothing on this site is medical advice. The people who can tell you whether a procedure is right for you are the surgeons you consult, and this site exists to help you choose whom to ask.

Why this site exists

Most directories of cosmetic surgeons repeat whatever a practice writes about itself, and a reader has no way to tell a board-certified plastic surgeon from a listing that only sounds like one. We built BeautyVetted to put a checkable fact next to each name. Where a board or a state lets the public look a surgeon up, we look, we record what we found, and we link the page we read so you can repeat the check in a minute. Where nobody lets the public look, we say that instead of guessing.

Today the site lists 3,945 practices and 3,207 surgeons across 53 metro areas and 13 procedures, and it sends a patient's request to at most three practices in their city. That is free for the patient, it is free for a practice to claim a profile, and payment never decides which three. Paid placement is always labelled Featured.

How we check

A surgeon is marked verified only when a primary source, or a state list that records the surgeon's own attestation, confirms exactly one matching record. The profile then shows which source we read and links to it, and it says plainly when the record was the surgeon's own report rather than a board check. Everyone we could not confirm is shown as not confirmed, with a link to the register where you can look for yourself.

The full method, including what we never do, is on our methodology page.

Data sources

Practice and surgeon listings come from public business records and the practices' own websites. A person is counted as a surgeon when a state medical board confirmed them, or the federal NPI registry (NPPES) holds a physician credential for them, or the practice gives them a physician's title. Board certification is confirmed against the registers below, and 865 of the 879 verified profiles carry the date of the check.

  • The Medical Board of California's physician survey 342 profiles
  • The surgeon's Florida state profile 175 profiles
  • The New York State Physician Profile 173 profiles
  • The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine 40 profiles
  • The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery's physician finder 38 profiles
  • The surgeon's New Jersey state profile 29 profiles
  • The surgeon's Virginia state profile 22 profiles
  • The surgeon's Maryland state profile 22 profiles
  • The surgeon's Ohio licence record 19 profiles
  • The American Board of Surgery's certificate lookup 19 profiles

The American Board of Plastic Surgery does not allow automated checks of its register, so we never claim an ABPS certification we did not confirm. Every unconfirmed profile links to the ABPS tool, which takes about a minute to use.

Which states publish a record a patient can read, and what share of listed surgeons each one let us confirm, is set out state by state in board certification by state .

Corrections

If a listing is wrong, write to [email protected]. We re-check the source, and when the source disagrees with the page we publish the correction and keep the date of the change on the profile. A practice can also claim its profile and correct its own contact details directly.
